I just say they’re all in cahoots, one gang, which is antithetical to proper policing, but they aren’t all murderers. I’m happy when power tripping cops abusing their power get pushback. These cops were not abusing their authority, they weren’t even exercising their power, they abdicated it by not using deadly force against deadly armed attackers. Conversely, when dealing with ANTIFA, there was no such restraint, violence is met with escalated violence not mass retreat, and arrests are made on scene.

I’m quite disappointed that the cops didn’t open fire more than once. If ever it was called for, it was Jan 6. The fact that only one shot was fired is a good indicator of how racist the police are….a black armed violent crowd invading the capitol looking to murder representatives and officials would have been mowed down like a neglected lawn. With the warnings they had of a violent attack/coup, there should have been a few thousand police/national guards staged like when BLM peacefully marched at the white house, and we know how police responded then with no physical provocation. These extra guards were requested and denied against Trump’s mob. Who refused to provide security is a major question of the investigation…one you would think Republicans would have wanted an impartial, unbiased, apolitical team to investigate, but they were dead set against it, or any investigation. Kind of like they are afraid of finding the truth because the truth is they incited the attempted coup/deadly political riot.

Well newtboy, how about this? Start promoting the concept of taking action on your own behalf and on behalf of your fellow man in situations that most would normally delegate to the police force.

Start first with listing every situation that would cause someone to call the cops. Be comprehensive. It might take several days or weeks. You may even want to interview subject matter experts to help with this ideation phase.

Then, come up with 3-5 alternative courses of action for each situation that don't involve a police force.

How motivated are you? I organize these types of research projects for a living. Heck, even without you I might undertake this project. I have many others higher on my list though.

Once you are done, it's a matter of publishing and promoting your research. I do all that as well.

I'm really curious about the logistics of this and other aspects like handling of accidents/medical emergencies, overall air quality, etc. A pretty awesome undertaking for sure.

In an emergency people helping people is a basic right. Impounding a vehicle and even arresting the owner serves no purpose then to feed the ego of law enforcement. How about working together and maybe even registering said vehicles with law enforcement and getting an ID for such emergencies. Hundreds of years of disasters and there seems to be a lack of communication and efficiency or even simple planning for things like this. I know emergency relief is a massive undertaking, but there are ways to go about it that includes people that are just trying to assist. There are more people in need then there are state and federal "professionals".

From where I'm standing, it's a five-year process in the best of times, yet neither are these the best of times, nor have the Tories done anything of substance in the time since the referendum. Theoretically, science works great. However, as has already been noted, in the real world in certain fields, the pressure to publish something "substantial" combined with the inability to get grants for certain experiments because they aren't "trendy" right now causes scientists to self-limit the kinds of research they undertake, which is not at all great for increasing human knowledge.

Another problem is the "expert opinion" problem--when someone with little reputation in the field finds something that directly contradicts the "experts" in the field, they often face ridicule. Finally, in the humanities at least, one of the biggest problems in research that uses a quantitative approach (i.e. statistics) is that researchers apply a statistical method to their data, such a as a t-test, without actually demonstrating that whatever being studied follows a normal distribution (i.e bell curve). Many statistical tests are only accurate if what is being studied is normally distributed, yet I've seen a fair share of papers published in respected journals that apply these tests to objects of study that are quite unlikely to be normally distributed, which makes their claims of being "statistically significant" quite suspect.

There are other statistical methods (non-parametric) that you can use on data that is not normally distributed but generally speaking a test of significance on data taken from a normally distributed pool is going to be more reliable. As is noted in this video, the reason these kinds of mistakes slip through into the peer-reviewed journals is that sometimes the reviewers are not nearly as well-trained in statistical analysis as they are in other methodologies.

"I haven't seen how Stewart handled the car preimpact. That said, those vehicles require speed for what little grip they have, as it's largely generated by the roof fin, and they don't really steer so much as surf. If you watch the cornering style it's a full on drift. That makes twitch steering pretty ineffective - you steer from the back which requires heavy throttle.

You don't see Stewart's approach ( at least on the vid I've seen ), and the fishtail post impact I would attribute to the impact itself. His approach does not seem consistent with trying to spray the other driver with dirt ; that would have to be a at a high angle relatively speaking and he seemed to come in straight.

It's possible that Stewart intended to kill, but I really think it's highly unlikely. When you're racing you have a lot to deal with, and whilst under a yellow flag undertaking is typically verboten and in theory you should be slowing down, but in reality you are always looking to get the drop as soon as the yellows disappear. To that end you're scanning the track looking for disabled vehicles.

You're not scanning for drivers standing in the middle of the track - the assumption would be that the driver stays safely secured in the car, or they hop the barrier. If that can't happen for some reason, it's the job of race control to red flag the race.

My personal theory, based on incomplete footage - I'd like to see in car footage from Stewart ideally - is that Stewart just didn't see him in time to make any effective attempt to miss. It's a night race, and Stewart would have been concentrating on the disabled vehicle to his right. There's not much about Ward's outfit that would attract attention - from Stewart's perspective, black helmet, black racesuit, against a dark dirt background. These vehicles don't use headlights, so there's nothing to offset the glare of the spotlights.

In a perfect world Stewart would have seen and avoided, but ultimately Ward put himself in a fucking stupid position and paid the price. I'm not surprised to see lack of remorse on Stewart's part ; Ward shouldn't have been there, plain and simple.

My fave trick to deal with this bullshit on the bike is to touch the brakes in such a way as the light comes on and the bike appears to dive without actually slowing me down. About 90% effective at making tailgaters shit themselves and drop back which combined with a little squirt of power to open the gap usually gets them to stay out of my life. (Maybe not as wise in a poxy car as you don't have the power to get away if you happen across the occasional indignant pshyco)

I get the rage being stuck behind slow lane hoggers too, but tailgating is almost always counter productive. If nothing else it tends to make people (myself included) slow down. Undertake swiftly and safely (if possible) or suck it up!

It's too early for any news if a single player TES game is in development but the MMO is a massive undertaking with rumors of a massive budget. Zenimax Online, the company developing the game, isn't seperate from Bethesda/Zenimax, it's just a legal entity for the development team. So just how much can the publishing side of the house afford to commit to other proects while the MMO is in production? We already know the production of expansions for Skyrim was prematurely halted right before it was announced that ESO would be the next Elder Scrolls release.

It sounds like you're in the medical profession and know your stuff. I wanted to respond to this comment though because it makes perfect sense from the medical industries point of view. I understand why it would be common sense to classify such behavior as an illness, and I understand why that is the standard perspective, but I think chingalera's point, and one I agree with on several levels, was that it might not be (an illness).

You (I'm assuming) belong to an institution that has the authority on the definition, so today we live with the perspective that people with different forms of mental process have a disability because that "illness" does not allow them to function painlessly within modern society. It's a disruptive abnormality that needs attention and proactive care to correct.

Now, you could also very easily make the point that modern society is the construct, the abnormal element, and similar to what other people are saying already, the mental illness is a coping mechanism, or an "evolution", or a side effect of being conformed to this way of life that very, possibly, maybe, is not healthy or a natural state of existence for our current arrangement of biological systems.

Without getting into a multitude of specifics, when I look at it that way and all the issues we have in our lives, the Human Condition's complete lack of forward progress despite our civil growth, and also consider the fact that I, you, and everyone we know, spend the vast majority of their waking life dedicated to actions that other people tell us we must undertake under penalty of violence or imprisonment, I don't think it's an illness.

I agree that it's very unhealthy to live in that state, but I think it is strongly disputable between the cause manifesting itself internally to the individual, or within the environment they inhabit.
