So true. That's exactly how my buddies reacted when they heard about a similar situation. I was upset that the female teacher got off so easily.

Gwiz makes a good point here. America freaks out when a male teacher bangs a 12 year old girl. America says "oh, well maybe you shouldn't have done that" when a female teacher bangs a 12 your old boy.
Double standard anyone?

Well, the point isn't just about America, which is an otherwise easy target for all this. Think about it for yourself:
If you hear on the news that a, let's say, late 20's male teacher had a relationship with a 14 year old girl, you are outraged. (or I am, anyway)
And if you (I) hear about a late 20s female teacher having a relationship with a 14 year old boy, the response is: "..really?"

I can certainly see my own hypocrisy, but for some reason it doesn't, well, feel as bad.

I think the problem with the prejudices is implied force. When the dude is older, everyone assumes it was forceful or rape and whatnot. But when it's the older female, everyone assumes she couldn't have used force on a MALE student cause she's a girl. At least that's my guess.
