It was selected as the 26th greatest cartoon of all time by members of the animation field. It is based on the Brothers Grimm story of a similar name.

Pure gold. I remember I had this cartoon (or at least part of it) on this awesome toy I had as a kid... It looked kind of like a big gun, and you'd load these yellow tapes into it which would have film inside, then you'd stick the end of it up to your eye and you'd crank it by hand, and you could watch the cartoon on loop. I loved that thing.
